A gentle Bible story meditation for kids and families, stepping inside the quiet places where God’s voice is heard.
A Still Moment — Only One Life Story
This gentle Bible story meditation invites children and families to reflect on the story of Elijah and the moment when God revealed His presence not in wind, earthquake, or fire — but in a still small voice.
Through quiet reflection and guided imagery, this Still Moment helps young hearts understand that God’s power is not always loud, and that His whisper can guide us when we learn to be still and listen.
The Elijah Series — Volume 1: The Fire and the Whisper
This meditation begins the Elijah Series, a collection of Still Moments following the life of God’s prophet Elijah — through fire on the mountain, rain after long drought, and the quiet whisper of God’s presence.
The journey begins here.

Bible Story Meditation
Scripture Focus — 1 Kings 19:11–12 (KJV)
“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.
And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind:
and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire:
and after the fire a still small voice.”
Supporting Scripture — Mark 4:39 (KJV)
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
Entering the Still Moment
Close your eyes for a moment.
Breathe in… slowly.
Breathe out… gently.
Imagine the desert wind brushing across the mountains.
The air is dry and quiet.
Far away, thunder hides behind the hills.
The land is waiting.
And somewhere in that quiet place, God is preparing to speak.
Not with thunder.
Not with fire.
But with a whisper softer than the wind.
Meditation Reflection
Long ago, the people had forgotten the sound of God’s voice.
They built statues that could not breathe.
They sang songs to skies that never answered.
But God’s light had not gone out.
And when the world grew loud with pride,
God chose a man to carry His message.
His name was Elijah.
Through storms, fire, waiting, and quiet moments, Elijah would learn something very important:
God’s power is not always loud.
Sometimes…
God speaks in a whisper.
And that whisper is strong enough to change the world.
Where might God be inviting you to become still and listen today?
